Benjamin Thomson
Ben Thomson is a general, trauma and hepatopancreaticobiliary surgeon with interests in HPB malignancy, trauma, emergency surgery and endoscopic management of biliary disease. He graduated from The University of Melbourne from which he also attained a Doctor of Medical Science. He trained in Melbourne at The Royal Melbourne Hospital with clinical fellow positions in HPB surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. In 2003 he was appointed as a senior lecturer and honorary HPB and transplant surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
Since returning from Scotland in 2004 he established the HPB service at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He is currently the Head of General Surgical Specialties and deputy director of the Trauma Service at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He completed his training in ERCP in 2004 and currently sits on the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE). His is an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and continues to have an active role in research, teaching and management.
