Ramin Shayan
Ramin Shayan is a plastic surgeon, working at St Vincent’s, Royal Melbourne and Alfred Hospitals. He undertook undergraduate studies then later a PhD investigating the role of lymphatic vessels in cancer metastasis, at the University of Melbourne. Findings from this thesis have resulted in over 30 peer-reviewed publications, including in the journals Nature, Cancer Cell and Nature Reviews. Ramin now runs a research lab at the O’Brien Institute studying diseases afflicting cancer survivors, namely radiation-induced tissue injury, and lymphoedema; and has both a clinical and basic science interest in these areas. He is an editor of four international academic journals and is interested in all areas of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, including skin cancer, hand and microsurgery, and reconstruction of the breast, lower limb and head and neck.
