Peter Martin

MB BCh BAO, PGDipPM, MMed, FAChPM Palliative Medicine Physician & Professor of Clinical Communication and End of Life Care Peter graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 1987. In 2000 he received a Masters in Medicine (majoring in Palliative Medicine) at the University of Melbourne. His thesis was in formative database evaluation methodology Peter has been teaching healthcare communication skills for almost 30 years to many disciplines and has a particular interest in difficult conversations for those with a life-limiting-illness relating to prognosis and goals of care. He has taught these skills to medical students at Monash, Cambridge (UK), Melbourne and Deakin medical schools. Over the years he has provided this skills based education to many thousands of postgraduate participants at all levels of seniority from different specialities. Peter has a clinical & research interest in multi-modal cancer cachexia care. Peter has been leading a dedicated inter-disciplinary cancer cachexia service for over 20 years.
