Zoe Wainer

Dr Zoe Wainer is Deputy Director of Medical Services at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Zoe is passionate about deepening our understanding of both sex and gender differences in lung cancer specifically, but cancer more broadly in incidence, experience and survival. In her current role she has developed a collaborative relationship with the Ministry of Health in Timor-Leste and has been working to assist them to identify the needs, capacity building and service delivery in cancer prevention, control and care. In addition she has been key in the development of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre's Aboriginal Health Program, recognising the key continuum of education, employment, research and engagement in the provision of culturally sensitive and safe clinical care for patient with cancer. Prior to her current work Zoe was a cardiothoracic surgical trainee, and had the honour of being a member of volunteer cardiac surgical teams to low and middle income countries, resulting in work in Tonga, Timor-Leste and Fiji. These volunteer programs changed Zoe's career direction, resulting in her greater focus in public health, a passion she continues to contribute to and develop in the area of cancer and non-communicable diseases more broadly.
